Why should I visit the dentist regularly?

Visiting the dentist regularly ensures that you receive preventive care to avoid problems entirely or stop any issues in the earliest stages of development, before they can cause damage to your teeth and smile. Regular dental cleanings and exams allow our dentist to monitor your oral health and help you learn the best ways to care for your teeth. Regular dental visits also save you time and money in the future, as treatments to repair and restore teeth cost more money and time than visiting the dentist regularly.

How often should I brush and floss?

You should brush at least twice a day and floss daily. Ideally, you should brush after each meal and before going to bed. Use a soft-bristled, ADA®-approved toothbrush and fluoridated toothpaste. We also recommend that you use a mouth rinse.

Why is flossing important?

Flossing works to clean the areas below the gumline and between the teeth where brushing alone will not reach. This helps ensure that plaque and bacteria are removed from your mouth and reduces your risk of developing cavities.

How safe are dental X-rays?

Dental X-rays are very safe for use. Thanks to advances in technology, X-rays now use digital imaging technologies and higher speeds to capture images, as well as producing less radiation. In fact, you are exposed to more radiation from the sun in your day-to-day life than you are from dental X-rays. Additionally, X-ray machines are checked for safety and accuracy regularly to comply with federal law and safety guidelines.

What is cosmetic dentistry?

Cosmetic dentistry is a field of dental care that focuses on improving the appearance of your teeth so that you can enjoy a more beautiful smile. It includes a broad range of treatments, from purely cosmetic options to restorative dentistry, preventive care and orthodontics.

What is a root canal?

Roto canals, or endodontic treatment is a procedure performed to save an injured or infected tooth from extraction. It involves cleaning the inside of the tooth, filling it with a medicated material and then sealing it with a dental crown to protect it from future infection or damage. Root canals can now be performed comfortably and effectively in just a few visits to our office.

What are my options for replacing a missing tooth?

There are several options for replacing missing teeth, including:

  • Dental bridges
  • Dental implants
  • Complete or partial dentures
  • Implant-supported bridges or dentures

Our dentist will discuss your options with you to find the type of replacement that is right for your needs.

What is gum disease?

Gum disease, also known as periodontal disease, is an oral condition which affects the gums and supporting structures of your mouth. It begins as a bacterial infection of your gums, and if left untreated will gradually progress until it destroys your gums and bone structure. Our dentist will check for signs of periodontal disease at each of your regular exams and will work with you to provide an effective treatment if you are diagnosed. Common signs of gum disease include:

  • Red, swollen or tender gums
  • Bleeding while brushing, flossing or eating hard foods
  • Gum recession
  • Loose or separating teeth
  • Sores in the mouth
  • Pus between the teeth
  • Persistent bad breath
  • Changes in your bite
  • Changes in the fit of oral appliances

How much does treatment cost?

Your treatment cost depends on a number of different factors, such as:

  • The type of treatment
  • The severity of the damage
  • Whether or not additional treatments are needed before you can resolve the issue

Our dentist will discuss your treatment plan and costs with you during your initial consultation. We will provide you with a cost estimate, and will review your financial options with you and find ways to maximize your insurance benefits.
